The active ingredient in the generic medication known as Azithromycin is azalide – a broad-spectrum antibiotic, representative of a new subgroup of macrolide antibiotics.
Azithromycin helps to escape of many disorders associated with inflammation. When used in high concentrations, it has bactericidal effect.
Indications for use of AzithromycinAzithromycin may be prescribed when a patient is suffering from:
- Suppurative and unspecified otitis media
- Acute sinusitis
- Streptococcal pharyngitis
- Streptococcal tonsillitis
- Acute laryngitis
- Pneumonia (without specification of the microbiological agent)
- Acute bronchitis
- Chronic laryngitis
- Chronic bronchitis
- Gastric ulcer
- Duodenal ulcer
- Infective dermatitis
- Lyme disease
- Urethritis and urethral syndrome
- Urinary tract infections
- Inflammatory diseases of the male genital organs, the cervix, female pelvic organs
How does Azithromycin work?
The mechanism of action of Azithromycin is associated with its effect on the function of bacterial ribosomes. Azithromycin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit and thus inhibits the biosynthesis of proteins of strains in pathogenic microorganisms. Thus, reaction inhibited translocation transpeptidation occurs, resulting in the formation and impaired capacity of the peptide chain, causing bacteriostatic antimicrobial effect. Besides, when used in high concentrations, at a relatively low density when microorganisms are in the growth phase, generic Azithromycin may have a bactericidal effect. This effect is usually resorted to in the treatment of conditions caused by hemolytic Streptococcus group A and pneumococcus.
High concentration of Azithromycin in infected tissues is also caused by the fact that phagocytes and macrophages transport it to the site of infection and release in the area of inflammation.
Dosage guidelines for Azithromycin
When using Azithromycin you need to take these facts into account:
- Azithromycin can only be used by adults, the average dosage being 1 g per day, which equals to 4 tablets taken as a single dose.
- No dosage adjustment is necessary for elderly people.
- No dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with average to moderate hepatic impairment.
Azithromycin tablets can be taken with or without food.
What are the side effects of Azithromycin?
The possible side effects of Azithromycin include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting and flatulence (gas accumulation in the intestines). There is a possibility of transient increase in liver enzymes. In very rare cases patients may suffer from skin rash.
Use carefully, preferably under medical supervision to reduce the risk of suffering from any side effects caused by Azithromycin no prescription pills.
Azithromycin is the best! Chlamydia is actually a pretty dangerous thing - it's more than the drip and the burning when you pee, if you have it for a long period of time, it just starts eating you up from the inside! I didn't want that, so I rushed to my dr when I first noticed the symptoms, took 1 mg azithromycin of Azithromycin once the test results were in (positive, of course, thanks my ex) and was completely healthy 2 weeks after. No side effects at all, but maybe because my stomach is quite tough and I never have any problems with antibiotics.
